Vanir are one of the two main groups of gods, the other being the Aesir. The Vanir are associated with fertility, prosperity, and commerce, and they have a more peaceful nature compared to the warlike Aesir.

Vanir played a significant role in the mythological narrative, especially in the Aesir-Vanir War, where they eventually made peace with the Aesir and exchanged gods to solidify their truce. The marriage of Njord to the Aesir goddess Skadi is one such example of the integration and reconciliation between the two groups.

The residence of Vanir is Vanaheimr.
