Skoll
Skoll (Sköll) in Norse mythology, a wolf associated with the concept of chasing the sun across the sky. Skoll, alongside his brother Hati, is one of two wolves born of the giantess Angrboða and the giant wolf Fenrir. Skoll is often depicted as eternally pursuing Sol, the sun goddess, in an attempt to devour her. This eternal chase is part of the explanation for the movement of the sun across the sky.
In the mythological sequence of Ragnarok, the end of the world in Norse mythology, it is foretold that Skoll will eventually succeed in his pursuit, bringing about darkness and destruction. Skoll’s role underscores themes of inevitable fate and the cyclical nature of the cosmos in Norse belief.
